Since the end of November, the main entrance to Caldea has been adorned by art on all four sides. Indeed, in the square where the stairs to the centre are located, visitors can view examples of the creative explosion that awaits them in the exhibition. These creations are the work of Philippe Shangti, a self-taught photographer and sculptor whose pieces never fail to move those who see them.
Originally from Toulouse and currently residing in Andorra, this is the first time Shangti has exhibited his work publicly in the Principality, which he will be representing from May in the Venice Art Biennale. His pieces have already been exhibited in many countries as well as leading galleries in Europe, Asia and the United States. His provocative and visually impactful creations are intended as a vehicle for denouncing various problems affecting today’s society.
Under the adage “Art is my hope”, Shangti intends to make his work known to the country’s population and the thousands of visitors who come to Andorra during the winter season. The exhibition, which can be viewed at Caldea until April, is a cry of protest to a society that lives frivolously, flaunting its excess while becoming a victim of drugs, prostitution and alcoholism, losing its respect for nature and the planet, and ultimately suffering the hypocrisy of this vicious circle.
The exhibition contains around thirty provocative and glamorous works, some of which display a touch of humour, and is certain to make us reflect on the various problems that are affecting today’s society.
If you haven’t seen this unique exhibition yet, we strongly recommend that you do. Sculptures and photographs that convey a transgressive message and warn of the loss of values in today’s society and the deterioration of planet Earth.
