Andorra is a very popular destination in winter, thanks to its two Alpine ski resorts, Grandvalira and Vallnord, both of which have an excellent reputation for skiable surface, ski lifts, snow quality, additional services… Naturlandia is added to the skiing proposal at these resorts, with its 15-km route for cross-country skiing, and in the past few years, skimo, or mountain skiing, has become all the rage in our mountains… But there is much more than skiing in winter in Andorra.
You will need to organise yourself, because there are a lot of very attractive activities available. Grandvalira’s activities are concentrated in two base camps: the Grandvalira Mountain Park, situated in the sector of Grau Roig, and the Grandvalira Outdoor Centre in the sector of El Tarter. In these centres you can get multi-activity passes that will enable you to enjoy a day full of experiences in the snow, at the best price.
Among the activities available are mushing trips (with sledges pulled by dogs), excursions by snowmobile, and routes on snowshoes to discover the wildest parts of Grandvalira. If you are more adventurous, to can try a flight in a paraglider and see everything from altitude, or launch yourself on a ‘death slide’ of 550 metres, at a height of 40 metres, during which you can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.
You won’t get at all bored at Vallnord, either. In the Pal Arinsal sector you will find a wide range of activities to enjoy as a family or in your group of friends: a rope park for adults and children, excursions on snowshoes, sledges, snowmobile circuits for children, the Big Zip (a 340-m Tyrolean bridge, only suitable for adults and children over 12 who fulfil the requirements for weight and height), panoramic helicopter flights… and if you are looking for a special experience, don’t miss the Snow Ratrac (departures from the station with a snow-cat which enable you to discover one of the least visible but most essential jobs on the slopes), which you can even combine with dinner in one of the resort’s high restaurants.
You cannot leave without the climax of the day, bathing at Caldea. Follow the information from the weatherman to know when it’s going to snow in Andorra, and if he’s right and you believe him, you can immerse yourself in our thermal waters while the snow falls on your face.
